Draeger SafetyWelcome to Tanzania

WELCOME TO TANZANIA:

Tanzania is a natural beauty and extraordinary wildlife. It is the largest country in East Africa - nearly one million square kilometers (386.109 square miles). Agriculture dominates the economy with the vast majority of its export crops of coffee, tea, cotton, cashew nuts, sisal, cloves and pyrethrum. Although few reliable cash flows thwart farmers, government intervention is to have a significant and positive impact on the economy.

In 1986, to help improve the economy of the country, the Tanzanian government introduced new policies, including reducing its budget deficit and an easing of trade policies and reducing restrictions on food crops. In addition, following substantial funding from the U.S. and many international groups in the mining, agriculture, oil and gas, insurance and tourism industries increase their staff and presence in the countries, Tanzania has experienced a 16% increase in FDI in 2007.

Tanzania has been growing at about 4% per year and is now a fully integrated company that develops democratic in one of the most dynamic economies in Africa. Dodoma is the capital and home to the country's parliament and government offices. It is located 440 kilometers (273 miles) due west of Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital. The Dar es Salaam is a city that is more than five centuries. It is a mixture of African, Arab, Asian and European cultures. Tanzanians are very friendly and stopped to help foreigners in any way they can.

For someone first arriving in Dar es Salaam by air, they see a large area of tall palm trees and homes of mud as far as the eye can see. Once on the ground, the buildings are constructed at random and not very clean. In contrast, international hotels are of good quality and well located for the seascapes.

The city is divided into four distinct areas: the downtown is a mix of office buildings, hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, parks and sports facilities. The "peninsula" is where most diplomats and expatriates live. It offers spectacular views of the sea, is home to restaurants, shops, hotels and has a sailing club. Then there are the coastal homes and stations that cover 20-30 kilometers (12-19 miles) north and south of Dar es Salaam. The rest of the city, unfortunately, is characterized by a low-cost housing, with a large population of three to four million people living near the poverty line.

Dar es Salaam has radically changed from socialism to a capitalist government more aligned over the past 15 years. The influx of diplomats, corporations and donations of foreign aid have led to a gradual improvement of living standards of local people. The infrastructure and public facilities are also improving each year - frequent power outages in the past are less and less frequent. Problems of water and wastewater are high on the list of government priorities.

Swahili is the official language of Tanzania, but for business communications, English is almost always used. A person can easily operate in the city without knowing Swahili, but learning it is easier to assimilate, workshops and barter in local communities.

Be polite and Tanzanians is the home of the most important thing you can remember and preferably if it is done in Swahili. Visitors should try not to raise his voice, even if patience is tested. Dar es Salaam is a Muslim environment and must be very understanding of Muslim customs.

Dar es Salaam is very hot almost all year around and unless you have an office or home with a fan or a good air conditioning system, you will feel drained by the high temperatures are generally 30 degrees C (86 degrees F), and was nearly 40 degrees C (10.
