Why the new Scotch-Brite scrub sponges on both sides already wet, and have a chemical smell like?

They feel like that because they have a heart of disinfectant. The wet is the substance.

I hope that Rita is good I just opened a package of 6 of them and they felt wet, and not feel funny, ha ha! I was concerened because I just moved into a new apartment and the skylight is directly above the cabinet, I keep it! I also thought maybe a mouse could have pee'd on them!
