Fire Suppression What would be the best fire suppression system I could get a budget in my fallout shelter? One of my friends said shelterist fire extinguishing system containing halon was the best, but was more expensive than regular systems on the market. Halon kill you. It would be foolish in my opinion to a halon system in anything where humans are. With the recent fires in Southern California, there is much talk of fire suppresing liquids. They look like dish soap. I think they would be cheap and easy to administer. Whatever you get, make sure it does not conduct any air (oxygen) out of the shelter and choke you. What you can burn? If you have something chemical (munitions?) Or electric, it should probably be stored separately enough to allow a dwelling to its fire suppression system clean, with something simple for the show. You want dry powder extinguishers, available at all Walmart stores and security. Halon replace all the oxygen in the chamber and the pressure of various forms of fire toxic compounds. In a fallout shelter, you have limited space, limited oxygen, and limited output. For this reason, other than a sprinkler system type is not desirable. Posted on July 18, 2010.
