Gas Leak Tester Small gas leak? I had a gas leak in my backyard. I called the gas co and they shot my counter until I fix the leak. So I fixed myself by changing an old pipe. This fixed the big leak, but when I put the tester gauge (I put it on 4psi) to see if it will keep the pressure gauge drops to 2psi in 7 hours. So I try to look for this small leak with a bubble Finder leak but the leak is too small that I can not find it. What can I do to pass the inspector inpection to get the meter back? it is possible (and probable) that the leak is actually in the dial, or assembly that you use to test the functionality. 4psi is hardly a good test. raise it to 30 or 40 psi (your new line should be easily able to manage) and see if you get all the bubbles in this way. if there is a leak, you should see your blood pressure goes down much faster with more pressure in the pipe. First, let me quote from the national gas code to test a gas pressure line.Section 4.1.4 Test-B-pressure test points shall not be less than 1 1 / 2 times the maximum pressure of work proposed, but not less than 3 psig.To find the leak pressure superior does not have sugested.I as others have found hundreds of leaks with 9.5 "in a column of water [less of 1 / 2 psig] What you describe is not a leak that is too small find.Soap everything, even things that you do not think would be a problem.Sometimes higher pressure will blow the bubbles away from the leak and it will be difficult to find everything on your them.Check tester gauge, many times, I found guage.Turn leak testing all gas valves when testing many devices leaks. Some have small leaks are very difficult to find, but keep control and good luck. You do not get all the equipment, but you must close the gas valve for each unit. If you plan to use a higher pressure. pressures above 10 psi may even damage some parts of control. depends on where you live the pressure test may be as little as the pressure measured on line wc (inches of water column) is less than the witches 1 / 2 psi. Changes in temperature could explain such a change did you put the pressure when it was hot outside and check again in the evening when it cools. during an inspection of the uniform building code requires 10 pounds in 15 minutes <if my memory serves me correctly> we are required to cap all the points in a test to pass. (1) Unplug all gas appliances and crown. (2) all the pipes under pressure at 40 psi and use a blow Childs bubble solution for leaks ... soap and the spacing of "ALL" accessories ... (3) If you still can not find the leak ... repressure pipe and coat all the pipes to see if you have a pin hole in the sand / in a pipe or fitting, union, tee, elbow, plug valve. If you have left. can [t find .... then it is probably in your appliances, water heaters, boilers, etc. .. range Posted on July 26, 2010.
