A rescuer is someone who acts in an emergency to sustain life, minimize the effect of the injury or illness until medical help is available and treats minor injuries that have not require professional medical attention.

Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require you to provide adequate equipment and appropriate first aid facilities and persons so that your employees can receive immediate help if they are injured or become ill at work.

What is "adequate and appropriate" will depend on the situation in your workplace and you should evaluate your needs are first aid. In the care industry, additional factors must be addressed in order to determine the first aid, such as , health conditions or diseases that may require sudden emergency or specialized care. You must assess your needs first aid in the light of your particular situation.

It is important to learn first aid so you can be a help for yourself or others who may be injured. The chances of finding someone quickly, or even survive an accident or injury can be greatly improved if someone is using knowledge of first aid immediately to help them help.
