Pan And Tilt Units

Looking through the addition of a remote pan / tilt unit to be used in conjunction with a tripod or the end of a camera crane. The cameras could be as light as the consumer Sony HDR-HC1 (about 2 pounds) and perhaps a bit heavier than the HDR-FX1 (about 5 pounds). If I add a high capacity battery and microphone, the weights us go on a book.

I found the Bescor MP101 unit for about $ 125 and Jony and others for $ 1,400 and over (Sachter, Cambo, Vinten Barber Tech and several others). The Bescor can easily cope with the HC1, but is right on the edge with the weight of the FX1. I can not find something in the range of $ 500 - $ 1,000 which I am comfortable with my putting FX1 (or other semi-professional or pro camcorder similar weight).

I have a Bescor who has not a model number, but must be the same. It is rated for 6 pounds. I used it with a video camera Panasonic WV D5000 type without any problems. I think this would be the same size and weight category as the FX1. The weight of the camera is not as critical as the balance and center of gravity. The Bescor was originally developed for the cameras with a CG that is much higher than equivalent modern digital camera, I think the score of 6 pounds is to be very conservative.
