Polaris Backrest

Polaris BackrestPower Couples

Excluding the cobra bites, speeding and root canals, many things are more experienced in combinations of both. Think margaritas with salt, beer and brats sauerkraut or a rest day outdoors with your spouse, children or a good friend. Duality is a theme of sustainable living. Let us be bold and add bike riding to the list. Some might say 2-up ATVs have been superseded by two side-by-side, but we strongly beg to differ. UTVs have their advantages, and are great fun, but two-seater ATVs are allowed on most trails, take up less space, usually cost less and can provide a more physically engaging ride, which is important for amateurs like us.

It is interesting to note that 2-ups represent about 6.7 percent of the ATV industry - a profitable segment which has grown in recent years, hence the increasing proliferation of choices now available.

We recently honored the Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI Touring ATV 2008 our year, but some new competition from Max freshened Can-Am Outlander and innovative Cruiser Arctic Cat models set the stage for a full comparison test 2-up .

Our test team consisted of three couples - one set of friends, some already being of parents (current marriage) and a married couple who is logged many miles on their two-up over the last three and a half years . There was a wide range of experience ATV - ideal for crew dissect and examine three single machines.

We loaded and operated on the shores of Lake Mille Lacs Minnesota great to ride the Red Top ATV Trail - typical, wooded area of public horse with a varied terrain. With bed washboard long former railroad, large connector trails winding through woods and a technique of "High Adventure" section, had the Red Top variety necessary for a thorough investigation.

3rd place - Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI Touring

With four distinct models, Polaris has a wide choice of variants 2-up to serve different audiences. Its X2 have a folding rear seat that converts into a cargo bed, while the Touring models are designed more comfortable for couples seeking to put on serious miles with a bigger, plushes seat attaches to the back which is a dramatic improvement of housing for passengers during the X2 compromise.

Based on the chassis old hunter, as opposed to the superb new XP introduced last summer, the Sportsman Touring is available in 500 or 800. We wanted to test the two best-ups available, so we went for the 800 Touring, with its powerful 760cc two-cylinder mill.

Features
As the chassis has been on the market for years, but which is constantly updated, the Touring Sportsman holds few surprises. This does not mean it is not broad strokes, although, as a wheel drive mode Versatrac Turf discreetly through your garden, abundant storage bins and the Polaris exclusive Active Descent Control, which offers a powerful four-wheel braking hard enough to take a position in a fully loaded quad mountain path, without using the brakes.

centric features including a passenger seat back is tilted over competitors and Arctic Cat Can-Am, two built-in cupholders, angular "Vibration Isolation" handles and rubber and plastic adjustable foot rests with height that also seek to minimize vibration.

Other goodies on demand AWD, fully independent suspension with MacPherson struts in front and double A-arm to the back, a receiver of a "rear, an attractive painted finish Polaris says is nine times more scratch resistant than regular plastic and strong cast aluminum wheels. With a price of $ 9,699, the sport has been the least expensive machine in the test with a simple $ 230 vs. Arctic Cat - but is the only machine here without a winch.
