Portable Gas Leak Detector Is there a way to seal these small leaks of gas from outside the steel pipe? I renovated a house and I am in contract for sale. The inspector finds gas leaks with a portable gas detector After your gas heating and found no leaks with soapy water. We are therefore assuming that these leaks are tiny minute, in case of leaks at all. Is there a way to seal these areas outside of steel pipes? An epoxy putty or could be used to seal these small leaks? I still have not had soap bubbles from two of the three sites and only a tiny little bubble at the third, which does not even burst. The problem is that the electronic sniffer read up to 50 ppm, which is not a bubble. the only way to fix it is to have an authorized technician to disassemble and assemble dope layout and sign a work order stating that all leaks have been checked and repaired. Yes and epoxy would work fine, but I recommend you weld it if it was not a gas line ... Success If it were my house, I would like to replace the pipes suspicious "black iron" gas pipe. (Do not use galvanized steel pipe - the odorant in the gas contains sulfur, which reacts with the zinc, causing holes.) get a sniffer and check again. it may be shut off. If your not finding anything, get another inspector, you do not need a trial. Replace the pipe. Posted on July 22, 2010.
